A lens is a transparent optic device that converges or diverges light rays by means of refraction. A concave lens have both the sides bulging inwards. Thus, it is a converging lens. Whereas, a convex lens have both the sides bulging outwards. Thus, it is diverging lens. A concave lens is also called as a negative lens. Concave lens can correct myopia/short sightedness. The eyeball of a person who has myopia is too long, and the images of faraway objects fall short of the retina. Therefore, concave lenses makes the object appear near that it actually is. This enables the person to see far away objects more clearly.

Uses of Concave Lens in Car Headlights
Concave lens being a divergence lens find its use in headlights of vehicles. This lens diverges the light over wider angle that help in a clear view of the far vehicles at night.

Concave Lens in Flashlights
For the same reason in above point, we use concave lens in flashlights. Hence, light beans gets magnified. This increases the radius of the light beam and thus provides a wider view angle.

Use of Concave Lenses in Peepholes
We all have a small lens fixed in a hole in our doors to view outside. These are the peepholes to peep who is outside the door. The concave lens provides a panoramic view of scene outside the door helping us to see wider angle.

Use in Lasers
Many modern devices like printers, scanners, CD and DVD players use laser beams. In this we want a sharp but magnified beam. Laser produces a sharp beam and then concave lens magnifies beam. Thus, we can cover a specific area with high intensity.
