A 20-year-old woman thought she had an infected blister on her toe. That evening. she went to the ER because the pain had become worse and redness was spreading up her leg. Upon exam, the doctor put her on antibiotics and admitted her for surgery that night. A smear was prepared using a sample from the blister.
