Janine Antoni's Gnaw (Fig. 5.24) took 600-pound blocks of chocolate and lard, gnawed the corners, spat the gnawed portions out, and modeled them into beautiful chocolate candy box and lipsticks. (See detailed images of this work.) It juxtaposes the beautiful with the ugly, the things that make us fat with the things that are associated with love, reductive sculpture with molded sculpture, the crude with the refined, and the performance with the static.
