Mr. Bean in that sense is torturing himself and so are the people around him in movie theater because he's terrified of it and almost had a heart attack but he's remaining seated because the perplexed around him forces him to watch the movie despite jumping everywhere as a defense mechanism worried about the time and money more than the moment of fear he's encountering with his girlfriend who's trying to contain herself.
