Some populations of Tiger Salamander have the ability to not undergo complete metamorphosis. Some individual salamanders will retain tadpole like characteristics like gills throughout their life if they live in water body with good environmental conditions. Despite remaining tadpole-like they develop sexually and can breed. However, if environmental conditions in the water are not favorable, they will undergo metamorphosis and become terrestrial, avoiding bad conditions in the water.
