Why would a physician give L-DOPA to a patient with Parkinson's disease? it is converted to dopamine and can increase the dopamine production in surviving dopaminergic neurons it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier and so it helps with the tremor and other motor symptoms it is converted to serotonin and helps to make the substantia nigra look more dark again it is converted to dopamine and can cause the dopaminergic neurons to regenerate
