Going to college is expensive, especially if you are moving to a different city or country to go to school. To alleviate some of the financial stress, Kunduz has listed a few great jobs that you could find as a college student.

On-Campus Jobs

Research Assistant

A research assistant (RA) is someone that helps professors with their research projects. Some students will be reading a lot of documentation to find relevant data that could help professors with their research topic, some might be doing data analytics to find supporting evidence for their professors’ research, and some might be conducting interviews for experiments. The type of work and the job itself would vary from project to project depending on your field of interest. Some colleges would have a standardized process for hiring, such as a job portal. However, we recommend you to take initiative. If there is an area that you are interested in, reach out to the professor organizing it and see if he or she might need a research assistant.

Teaching Assistant

A teaching assistant (TA) is someone that helps professors mark exams, assignments, and answer students’ questions in office hours. Generally, if you performed well in a course (eg. getting an A in the class), you could reach out to your professor to see if they are hiring teaching assistants for the same course in upcoming semesters. Usually, students are eligible for TA positions starting their second year of college as they have developed a basic understanding of the curriculum and have taken additional courses to enhance their understanding in the particular topic. TA jobs have a flexible schedule but are often busy during exam season as they have to mark other students’ exams and return them as soon as possible.

Support & Administrative Roles

RA and TA jobs might require students to have a certain academic background or skillsets, but if you are a first-year student, support and administrative roles on campus are a create way to build your resume as well. For example, working as a librarian at your school library, working as a receptionist at your department office, or even working at the cafeteria! Most of these roles do not require much background knowledge. They are tailored for university students who are looking for something part time during the school year.

Off-Campus Jobs

Internships

Internships are important, especially for people that study business and STEM. Most internships are offered during the summer when you are on summer vacation. Depending on what you are studying, you should start looking for summer internships a few months to one year in advance. For younger students, startups are a great place to find your first internship. For example, Kunduz offers internships within growth, social media, and campus marketing, which are great places for students to gain more experiences. Large corporations such as banks, consumer goods, and retail companies often have intern positions that are available to first- and second-year students, which could be a great starting point for many!

Part-Time Jobs

These are jobs that are generally offered during the school year that are not affiliated with universities. A lot of college students can tutor high school students, in fields such as Math, Chemistry, and whatnot. If you are interested, you can also potentially join Kunduz, and be part of a network of 35,000+ tutors around the world! Other part time jobs include working as a barista at a local coffee store, working as a sales associate, or working as a server at a restaurant.

In the end, don’t stress if you haven’t landed your dream job yet! There are many opportunities for college students to find jobs. This list provides a few examples of jobs for college students and hopefully, the recommendations above are helpful! Happy job hunting!
