In "Harrison Bergeron," why does George have a mental handicap in his ear? He was very good at hearing, and this device tuned things out. He was extremely smart, and this device interrupted his thought process. He was not very good at hearing and a device helped him out. He was not a smart man, and the device helped him learn and retain knowledge so he would be smarter.
