Kunduz was started by three high school friends as a side project while Basar was studying at Stanford's Graduate School of Education, driven by their strong belief in personalized education and the ever-improving technologies that make it increasingly possible.

Their initial research, supported by hundreds of interviews with students and educators, led to the development of their first instant-help app for their home country, Turkey, in 2016. By the time they graduated, Kunduz had been subscribed to by thousands of students and supported by numerous ed-tech investors in Silicon Valley, including reputable funds like Y Combinator.

Kunduz has always prioritized building educational products and features that are actively used by students and recommended by educators. By the end of 2023, Kunduz had scaled to a point where it was subscribed to and actively used by hundreds of thousands of students annually, and recommended by tens of thousands of teachers, through partnerships with hundreds of schools. Currently, Kunduz has offices in three countries and continues to explore more opportunities for greater impact with the valuable input of educators around the world.
